Risks of Obesity

  • Fats convert to fatty acids in the liver causing a change in the insulin levels. These changes lead to diabetes.
  • An excess of fat stored in the body results in the inflammation of the bodies tissues.
  • Due to the excessive body fat the heart is placed under pressure to work twice as hard to pump blood through out the body. This adds strain which can lead to a heart attack.
  • Obesity is also linked to many types of cancers.
  • Shortness of breath, fatigue and a lack of energy are the common complains of an obese individual.

Causes of Obesity

  • A low intake of fresh fruits and vegetables are linked to obesity.
  • Kids choose incorrect food choices for their meals which contain calories exceeding the daily recommended allowance.
  • Due to the advances in technology, kids tend to lead a sedentary lifestyle. The lack of exercise and the combination of larger portion meal sizes consumed by kids makes it easy for them to fall prey to obesity.
  • The variety and convenience of tasty fast foods are easy meal options for kids to choose from. These unhealthy choices increases and adds to the body’s fat content.
  • Kids tend to choose foods that are high in carbohydrates. These carbohydrates convert to glucose and are stored as fat.
  • Peer pressure and emotional upsets often lead kids to comfort eat resulting in an increase of calories and obesity
  • Been overweight in certain cases is an indication of poor food choices with insufficient protein content. The body’s protein stores run out causing an excess of fat to be stored to compensate for the lack of protein intake. The storage of excess fat is linked to obesity.
